Oleg Vinogradov: Crimea needs Academy of Opera and Ballet

One of the most renowned Russian and world ballet masters, National Artist of the USSR Oleg Vinogradov supposes that it is necessary to establish an educational institution for ballet-dancers in Crimea. Mr. Vinogradov spoke on this topic in the press conference within Crimean tour of the troupe. The organizer of the tour became the YIEF Foundation.

Oleg Vinogradov’s vallet troupe will perform in Sevastopol, Yalta and Simferopol. The first show will be on July, 4. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea supports the tour. The renowned choreographer will present to Crimean citizens and guests a choreographic show, including fragments from such classical ballets as “Swan Lake”, “Pachita” and “Harlequinade”.

“I cannot imagine the development of such a glorious region without an opera and ballet theatre. It needs to be done! We need to lay the groundwork for it, foster public’s appreciation to classical art. Maybe it is necessary to find here a ballet school or even academy. I have an experience of implementing such projects: for 20 years, I have a school in Washington. It is one of the best ballet academies in the USA, the graduates have medals in the most prestigious international contests. Such kind of academy is needed here. For sure, to open such institution we need a building, a draft and investments. But in the rough stages we can open a school to sort out most talented people”, - commented Oleg Vinogradov.

Minister of Culture of the Republic of Crimea Arina Novoselskaya proposed to open a ballet class at the premises of Child Centre of Theatrical Art, which construction will be started in Simferopol. “This would be a beautiful building in the very heart of Sevastopol, on the spot of former Puppet Theatre”, - said Ms. Novoselskaya, - There will be two halls: one – for puppet shows and second, the bigger one for 350 seats with academic scene with turning table. The third and fourth floors will be for classes, where children will learn dramatic art. Now I know that there certainly will be classical academic ballet classes”.

The Minister also marked that it is also necessary to set up an opportunities for further ballet education.  As explained by Ms. Novoselskaya, the next step will be creating the Theatre of Opera and Ballet. “First we need to make a demand in such kind of theatre, cultivate a taste to opera and ballet”, - marked the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Crimea

Crimean Ballet Seasons

Oleg Vinogradov also noticed that it is necessary for Russia to embark steps to keep its status of the world-leading center of ballet art. “In the modern ballet we were the first, but for the last 30-40 years the crisis deepened, - said the ballet master. – In the Soviet years Russian ballet has reached its top, Only Russia has been opening choreographic frescos. Now we do not adopt big stages, choreographers are rare and we are losing our school. Ballet began to lose its traditions. New forms – modern ballet with its free dance is good, but it is not a ballet”.

Oleg Vinogradov thanked YIEF Foundation for organizing 3-days tour to Crimea and this initiative in the cultural field. “I want to thank those people, who invented to announce the beginning of Crimean Ballet Seasons, which possibly be in tune with the highest and prestigious cultural projects of the world”, - said the ballet master.
