YIEF-2017 to Become a Platform for Discussion of Global Challenges and Risks

Global-scale challenges that pose a threat to the development of the humanity will be discussed at III Yalta International Economic Forum (YIEF) that is to take place this April 20-22. The Forum participants will discuss such issues as nature preservation and interaction between a man and artificial intelligence among other key topics also included in the agenda of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

Extreme weather events are the most possible risk factor for the humanity in 2017, according to the group of experts who prepared a report about the main global threats for the WEF. Such annual reports have been prepared for the last 13 years, and for the first time ever weather events were named at the top of the list of probable negative factors with the capacity of affecting the state of things in the whole world. The second place in the possible factors list is occupied by large-scale migration, with another factor related to the environment – natural disasters – ending up at the third place.

The authors of the report claim that attempts to stop global warming have failed so far: 2016 was the warmest year in the history of systematic climate observations that began 137 years ago. One of the consequences of the warming was unequalled deglaciation in the Arctic Ocean and extreme weather events, including floods and droughts. Likely long-term consequences of the climate change are the lack of fresh water and impediment of agricultural activity in a number of regions, which in turn can lead to economic crises and involuntary mass migration.

WEF experts believe that the threats faced by the mankind because of the climate change press for formation of new alliances and search for new ways of cooperation to combat all the negative tendencies.

In this regard, discussions about preservation of natural resources planned at the YIEF become especially topical. The issues of environmental protection technologies development will be discussed at a dedicated sectional meeting, with nature preservation themes to be deliberated at the main YIEF plenary meeting within the thematic block called “Human”.

“Now we are deciding on the key speakers and main lines of discussions, with formation of the list of participants at the thematic sectional meeting related to the preservation of natural resources. We expect some prominent scientists, business persons, state authorities, and foreign experts to take part in the conference,” said YIEF Foundation Press Service.
