Intellectual Upgrading of Sevastopol by Leading Russian Universities

The Sevastopol authorities have entered into an agreement with Joint-Stock Bank Rossiya and VessoLink Group and Moscow State University, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and Sevastopol State University for implementing a Smart City project. Scenarios and instruments for upgrading the economy that are being applied in Russia and on a global scale, and opportunities and challenges related to economic digitalisation will be discussed at the Yalta International Economic Forum (YIEF) on 19–21 April. This issue will be highlighted at an extended plenary session of the “Global Future. Future of Russia” Forum.

The agreement on implementing the Smart City Project in Sevastopol was signed at the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi devoted to regional development of the Russian Federation. According to Dmitry Ovsyannikov, Sevastopol Governor, the project stipulates “an intellectual upgrade” of the municipal economy and of the architecture, transport, communications, healthcare, education and tourism spheres.

“I am grateful to the companies we’ve signed an agreement with today. These are major universities of the country and industry leaders. Sevastopol will be the first region in Russia to implement a Smart City project”, said Mr Ovsyannikov.

Implementation of the project in Sevastopol with due regard for the funds raised is estimated at RUB 1.5bn. Sevastopol’s budget for 2018 is RUB 35.7bn.

New development strategies, upgrading mechanisms, innovative approaches, challenges and opportunities related to economic digitalisation are among the key topics discussed at the Yalta International Economic Forum. These issues were also considered at the main YIEF 2017 plenary session.
