Rinaldo Vincentini and Marino Parmigiani, members of the business community of Rovigo (Veneto), visited Yalta to establish business ties. Their visit was a step toward implementing the declaration of cooperation Yalta and Rovigo signed in April 2017 on the sidelines of the 3rd Yalta International Economic Forum.
Elena Sotnikova, head of the Yalta Administration, met with members of the Italian business community and discussed developing humanitarian and economic cooperation between Yalta and Rovigo.
“Establishing friendly ties with your city is very important for us. We already have two twin cities in Italy, Pozzuoli and Salsomaggiore Terme, and it would be a signal honour for us were Rovigo to become our twin city, too. We took the first step in that direction last year, when we signed a protocol of intent at the 3rd Yalta International Economic Forum”, Ms Sotnikova stressed. She added that the agreement had already stood the test of time and both cities were ready for mutually advantageous cooperation in tourism, economics, sports, culture and healthcare.
In their dialogue with the head of the Yalta Administration, Rovigo’s representatives discussed the prospects for developing viticulture and winemaking, bolstering friendly ties, problems stemming from the sanctions, and ways to overcome them. They emphasised that conclusion of twin city agreements had become extremely complicated for Italian cities; consequently, another cooperation form, a Friendship Treaty, is gaining popularity. It is much easier to sign and, in essence, does not differ from a twin city agreement.
Elena Sotnikova invited the Italian guests to visit Yalta during the celebrations of the city’s 180th anniversary in August 2018. The festivities will be held twice, in April and in August.
The Yalta–Rovigo protocol of intent providing for signing of a twin city agreement in the future was concluded on 21 April 2017. Ezio Conchi, Deputy Mayor of Rovigo, and Andrey Rostenko, then head of the Yalta administration, affixed their signatures to the document.
“It is a pleasure to establish friendly relations with Yalta with the prospect of a future twin city agreement”, said Ezio Conchi, after signing the document. “Rovigo is located in a unique natural area, on the estuary of the River Po in the Veneto region, and I am sure that the people of Crimea would like to visit us, just as the people of Rovigo would like to visit Crimea. As soon as the sanctions are lifted, I think our entrepreneurs and their Crimean colleagues will find many formats for cooperation and business projects.”
