On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin is making a working visit to the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, beginning with an inspection of the Crimean Bridge under construction across the Kerch Strait. The bridge is the biggest infrastructure project under way in Crimea, involving RUB 229.92 bn in state investment. More than 10,000 construction workers are employed on the site. The Crimean Bridge highway is to open in December 2018 and the railway at the end of 2019. At 19 kilometres, the Crimean Bridge will be the longest both in Russia and in Europe.
Vladimir Putin will also inspect the new terminal at Simferopol Airport, the construction contract for which was signed in 2016 at the 2nd Yalta International Economic Forum. This is Crimea’s biggest investment project with private financing of over RUB 32 bn. The terminal will open by the beginning of this year’s summer season. The new facility, with an area of over 78,000 sq.m., can handle seven million passengers a year, which may be increased to 10 million.
The President will also visit Sevastopol.
