The largest business event in Russia - the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) - began its work on Thursday 24thof May. Along with SPIEF the four leading business areas of the country include the Yalta International Economic Forum, the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok and the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi.
The key theme of SPIEF 2018 is "Building a Trust Economy". On Friday 25th of May the main event of the Forum will be a plenary session with the participation of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde.
The number of participants of the Forum this year is projected to be about 15 thousand people from 70 countries. Representatives of the new Russian government, formed on May 18th, will answer questions of the Russian and international business community.
The SPIEF program includes more than 90 events, including business sessions, panel discussions, business dialogues, thematic business breakfasts, TV debates, etc. Discussions within the framework of the business program will be held in four thematic areas: "The Global Economy in an Era of Change", "Russia: Utilizing Growth Potential"," Human Capital in the Digital Economy" and "Leadership Technologies".
The key slogan of SPIEF 2018 is "Building a Trust Economy". The business program includes discussions on the impact of new technologies on all spheres of life: participants will discuss the use of artificial intelligence in the real sector of the economy, the use of blockchain technology in management and business, the construction of digital infrastructure, gene therapy and breakthrough technologies in medicine.
As in previous years, SPIEF will host inter-country business dialogues and thematic business breakfasts. Business meetings of representatives of business circles of Russia and guest countries will be held on the sidelines of SPIEF. Bilateral meetings will be held with representatives of business communities of the USA, India, Italy, Finland and African countries.
Anton Siluanov, First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Finance of Russia, will attend the Forum’s opening ceremony on Thursday. The opening ceremony will also be attended by the President of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, the Prime Minister of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khuralsuh, the Vice-Chairman of the People's Republic of China Wang Qishan, the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party on Economic Affairs Nguyen Van Binh and the Vice-Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz.
The Forum was also attended by Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell Ben van Beurden, Chairman of the Board of Directors 2 Nord Stream AG, the former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. A foresight session "The Future of the Mind" will be hosted by Michio Kaku, a specialist in theoretical physics and popularizer of science, one of the world's leading experts in the field of risk management within SPIEF. Leading expert on the impact of random and unpredictable events on the world economy and stock trading, trader Nassim Taleb will be a speaker at the session "Transitional World: What Will Tomorrow Bring?"
On the sidelines of the SPIEF events will include a meeting of the B20 regional advisory council, the Russian Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Forum as well as a session of the "Arctic: Territory of Dialogue" International Arctic Forum on the theme "Arctic Potential. The Northern Sea Route as a Driver of Economic Growth" and the Youth Economic Forum.
