Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman of the Federation Council, and Governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov have launched the first session of the summer recreational activities in 2018 at the Laspi Children's Health Center near Sevastopol, opened in February 2018 after reconstruction.
On behalf of D. Ovsyannikov, last year a large-scale reconstruction began in the camp, so after partial repairs 600 children had a rest in Laspi - 200 persons per session in summer of 2017. Recreation camp "Laspi" will be granted the status of the International Children's Center. This was announced by the Governor of Sevastopol, Dmitry Ovsyannikov, during the Yalta International Economic Forum.
"We came to an agreement with “Artek” to be the best camp in the world, and “Laspi” - is the best camp in Russia," TASS quoted Mr. Ovsyannikov.
- Dear friends, I sincerely congratulate you on the opening of the first session at the Laspi Children's Health Center. It may be said that you are pioneers. Of course, you paid attention to the fact that adults tried to provide good, comfortable conditions in this renovated, beautiful camp by the beginning of summer, " Matviyenko addressed to children, having a rest in the camp.
"Laspi" — one of the two camps under the jurisdiction of the government of Sevastopol, it is located in the picturesque Laspin Bay-the warmest place on the southern coast of Crimea, where the average annual temperature is plus 15 degrees. The camp was built in 1957, and until 2017 total building renovation has not been carried out here. Due to the general deterioration of buildings and communications in 2016, the camp was unable to admit children.
On the 1st February this year, the second stage of reconstruction has been completed, now “Laspi" is able to admit around 600 persons per session, over the summer of this year more than 1.7 thousand people will have a rest, and in 2019 it is planned to admit 2,3 thousand people. In 2020, when "Laspi" works at full capacity, the camp will be able to take about 6 thousand children all year round as an educational center for gifted children.
