Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held their first meeting in Helsinki beyond the multilateral international Forums. They have been negotiating face to face during more than two hours, later the negotiations continued with the participation of members of delegations.
According to Putin, the difficulties and tense atmosphere in relations between Russia and the United States have no objective reasons. He recalled that the Cold War had long since ended.
"The era of sharp ideological confrontation between the two countries has gone far into the past, the world environment has changed fundamentally," Putin clamed.
According to the Russian President, at present Moscow and Washington is facing other challenges. These include equilibrating international security mechanisms, as well as the spread of terrorist threats. Putin expressed the hope that Russia will be able to develop an understanding with the United States to address these problems by common efforts. He also claimed that he expected negotiations with Trump to improve relations between two countries.
Trump noted that after their current meeting with Putin, the situation has been beginning to change. "We had a direct, open and very constructive dialogue," he said.
He noted that the dialogue between Moscow and Washington was important for the United States, Russia and the World. He claimed that countries should find an opportunity to cooperate if they want to find ways to improve the situation in the world.
At the same time, Trump called the meeting with Putin a turning point in relations between Moscow and Washington.
"I'd rather go to political risk in the interests of peace than I'll risk peace for the sake of politics," Trump said, and expressed the hope that the United States and Russia could solve all the problems that were discussed at the Summit in Helsinki.
