A member of the US delegation, Silvia Demarest, during a three-day visit to the peninsula, said that Crimea had become a part of Russia legally.
A delegation from the US consisting of four people arrived on the peninsula with a three-day official visit on Wednesday. It included representatives of the American organization "Center for Citizen Initiative". Foreign guests set a goal "to convey the truth about the lives of Crimean residents in their homeland." On the first day, the delegation visited an orphanage in Simferopol, where the alley for friendship was established, and met with the head of the Crimean parliament and deputies. The delegation is also planning to visit Sevastopol and Yalta.
"I am a lawyer by education. I understand that what happened in Crimea in 2014 was a legitimate expression of the will of the people and the expression of the legitimate right to self-determination, that everything was carried out within the framework of law. This is what I will talk about when I come back in the US. I will tell everyone about this in the US. That was the expression of the will of the people of Crimea, and I don't think that this situation will ever change and Crimea will ever become a part of Ukraine," said Demarest.
According to the American guests, among the population of the United States, many are positive about the initiative to establish relations with Russia.
Ordinary Americans barely discuss the situation around Crimea and do not know anything about the peninsula, however, regular visits to the republic by representatives of people's diplomacy will help change the attitude of the US residents to the Russian region. This was stated by the member of the American delegation Michael Metz at a press conference in Simferopol.
Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Sevastopol, Sergey Gorbachev also confirmed that guests from the US will visit several regions of Crimea. In Sevastopol, several meetings will be held with journalists and public figures. "They visited Sevastopol more than once, met with the public, with the Cossaks, visited the 35th battery," he added. The visit of the American delegation will end on September 9.
